Despite its mature design and wide adoption, KYN28 switchgear cannot be directly used in the North American market.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"609\" data-end=\"959\">The reason lies not in product quality, but in <strong data-start=\"656\" data-end=\"734\">fundamental differences between IEC\/GB and North American (IEEE) standards<\/strong>. These differences involve voltage class definitions, insulation platforms, enclosure strength, thermal limits, and component requirements. As a result, compliance requires systematic redesign rather than minor modification.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"961\" data-end=\"964\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"966\" data-end=\"1018\">Voltage Class and Insulation Platform Differences<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1020\" data-end=\"1237\">In North America, the <strong data-start=\"1042\" data-end=\"1125\">15 kV voltage class requires a lightning impulse withstand level (BIL) of 95 kV<\/strong>. Conventional KYN28 switchgear designs are based on a 12 kV insulation platform and cannot meet this requirement directly.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1239\" data-end=\"1457\">To achieve compliance, the insulation system must be upgraded to a <strong data-start=\"1306\" data-end=\"1324\">24 kV platform<\/strong> and verified through full dielectric and impulse testing. Without this upgrade, the equipment does not meet basic IEEE requirements.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1459\" data-end=\"1462\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1513\">Compartment Design and Temperature Rise Limits<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1768\">While KYN28 switchgear complies with IEC IP2X compartment separation, <strong data-start=\"1585\" data-end=\"1602\">IEEE C37.20.2<\/strong> imposes stricter enclosure rules. Ventilation openings are generally not allowed in high-voltage compartments, except for cable entry, which limits heat dissipation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1770\" data-end=\"1998\">In addition, IEEE standards restrict the allowable temperature rise of copper conductors to <strong data-start=\"1862\" data-end=\"1870\">65 K<\/strong>, compared with <strong data-start=\"1886\" data-end=\"1907\">75 K under IEC\/GB<\/strong>. This places higher demands on conductor sizing, insulation materials, and thermal design.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2000\" data-end=\"2003\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"2005\" data-end=\"2055\">Mechanical Strength Requirements for Enclosures<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2057\" data-end=\"2283\">North American standards define clear minimum thickness requirements for enclosure materials. Steel partitions in the main circuit area must be <strong data-start=\"2201\" data-end=\"2220\">at least 3.0 mm<\/strong>, while other structural components require <strong data-start=\"2264\" data-end=\"2274\">1.9 mm<\/strong> or more.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2285\" data-end=\"2477\">If aluminum alloy enclosures are used, material thickness must increase significantly to achieve equivalent strength. This means IEC-based cabinet structures cannot be reused without redesign.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2479\" data-end=\"2482\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"2484\" data-end=\"2534\">CTs, Auxiliary Contacts, and Surface Protection<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2536\" data-end=\"2809\">IEEE standards require <strong data-start=\"2559\" data-end=\"2632\">current transformers to withstand short-circuit current for 10 cycles<\/strong>, influencing CT type and layout. In addition, TOC and MOC auxiliary contacts must be installed in fixed enclosures and mechanically driven by the breaker or withdrawable truck.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2811\" data-end=\"3083\">Corrosion protection is also strictly defined. Preferred materials include <strong data-start=\"2886\" data-end=\"2921\">304 stainless steel or aluminum<\/strong>, while carbon steel enclosures require qualified coating systems. Indoor surfaces must be coated or galvanized, with <strong data-start=\"3039\" data-end=\"3060\">Light Gray No. 61<\/strong> as the standard color.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3085\" data-end=\"3088\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"3090\" data-end=\"3132\">Designing for the North American Market<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3134\" data-end=\"3388\">To enter the North American market successfully, <strong data-start=\"3183\" data-end=\"3257\">KYN28 metal-clad switchgear must be redesigned based on IEEE standards<\/strong>, rather than adapted from an IEC platform. Only a purpose-built approach can ensure compliance, safety, and long-term reliability.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3134\" data-end=\"3388\">KYN28 switchgear at Haocheng manufacturing
